About the Risk Management Internship Programme
The Risk Management Internship Programme is designed to provide unemployed graduates with practical workplace experience to improve employability and prepare them for careers in governance, auditing, and financial management.
The programme offers exposure to:
- Municipal risk management processes
- Policy development and implementation
- Compliance with public sector legislation
- Fraud prevention and internal control systems

Internship Overview
- Position: Risk Management Intern
- Department: Office of the Municipal Manager
- Duration: Two (2) years internship contract
- Stipend: R120 000 per annum (all-inclusive package)
- Location: Mbombela (Nelspruit), Mpumalanga Province

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Grade 12, plus
- A relevant three-year National Diploma or equivalent tertiary qualification in:
- Risk Management
- Internal Auditing
- Accounting
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Be a South African citizen
- Be unemployed and must not have participated in any internship programme before
- Be willing to sign an internship agreement
Knowledge and Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- Self-motivation and initiative
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to collaborate with various departments and institutions
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
Key Performance Areas
The intern will assist with:
- Development and implementation of the Council Risk Management Strategy
- Facilitation of annual risk assessments and compilation of risk registers
- Compliance with risk management legislation, including MFMA and MSA
- Development of risk management and fraud prevention policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
