The South African Society of Crop Production (SASCP) invites South African students to apply for the SASCP Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

This bursary supports undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in the field of Crop Production, with a strong focus on Agronomy and Crop Science, to promote sustainable agriculture and food security in South Africa.
About the Bursary Provider – South African Society of Crop Production
The South African Society of Crop Production (SASCP) was established in 1971 in Pretoria by five founding members: DF Retief, SA Hulme, E Strydom, PJ Möhr and PC Nel. The organisation is a science-based professional body dedicated to advancing crop science research, training, and technology transfer.
SASCP actively promotes public understanding of:
- Soil management
- Environmental management
- Sustainable crop production
Many of its members are involved in research related to maize, oilseeds, small grains, and protein crops, contributing to long-term agricultural sustainability in South Africa.
About the SASCP Bursary Programme – Fields Covered
The SASCP Bursary Programme supports full-time undergraduate and postgraduate studies within the broad field of Crop Production, including:
- Crop Science
- Agronomy
- Related crop production disciplines
The bursary aims to develop future researchers, agronomists, and crop specialists who will strengthen South Africa’s agricultural sector.
Bursary Value
The SASCP bursaries are awarded at the following values:
- Undergraduate bursary: R15 000
- MSc bursary: R20 000
- PhD bursary: R25 000
Eligibility Requirements for the SASCP Bursary
Applicants must meet all of the following minimum requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying full-time towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification related to Crop Production (Crop Science or Agronomy)
- Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least their first year of study
- Must be registered at a recognised university in South Africa
Failure to meet these requirements may result in disqualification.

- Certified copy of ID
- Full academic record
- Proof of tertiary registration
- Reference letter(s) from study leader or Dean of the faculty
- Motivational letter explaining why you should be awarded the bursary
