117 x Air Traffic Services (ATS) Bursaries 2026

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) invites South African unemployed youth to apply for the Air Traffic Services (ATS) Bursary Programme 2026, a highly competitive aviation bursary offering 117 funded opportunities for eligible matriculants.

Bursary Application Closing Date: 31 January 2026

The Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) plays a critical role in managing South Africa’s airspace. Through this bursary programme, ATNS aims to develop future aviation professionals by funding specialised training at its Aviation Training Academy in Bonaero Park. Successful bursars will be placed according to the operational requirements of the organisation after training.

This programme is ideal for matriculants with strong Mathematics and English results who are passionate about aviation and are willing to relocate anywhere in South Africa.


ATS Bursary Streams Available

The Air Traffic Services bursary covers the following specialised aviation streams:

  • Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
  • Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO)
  • Target Generating Officer (TGO)
  • Airport Management Centre (AMC) Liaison Officer
  • Simulator Support Officer (SSO)

Each stream offers extensive theoretical and practical training in air traffic management and related aviation operations.


Job Description

Bursars will receive:

  • Extensive training and development in air traffic management
  • Exposure to real-world aviation operations
  • Structured learning over a specified training period
  • Placement aligned with ATNS operational needs

This programme is demanding and requires discipline, focus, and a strong commitment to aviation safety.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • South African citizen with a valid Identity Document
  • Matric certificate with passes in:
    • Pure Mathematics – Level 4 (HG D / SG C or above)
    • English – Level 4 (HG D / SG C or above)
  • Must attach Grade 12 results to the application
  • Unemployed South African youth
  • Medically fit and willing to undergo a medical assessment (especially for the ATSO stream)
  • Willing to relocate anywhere in South Africa
  • Applicants who were previously on a similar ATNS programme will NOT be considered
