Financial Internship Programme 2026 – Cape Agulhas Municipality

Cape Agulhas Municipality (CAM) has officially advertised three (3) Financial Internship vacancies under its Financial Services Department. This is a 2-year contract internship programme, funded by the National Treasury and implemented in line with National Treasury guidelines.

The programme is designed to provide structured in-service training to unemployed graduates who wish to build a career in municipal finance, auditing, risk management, and treasury functions.

Preference will be given to applicants residing within the Cape Agulhas Municipal area.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be in possession of at least one of the following:

Qualification Requirements

  • A three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in:
    • Economics
    • Accounting / Finance
    • Internal Auditing
    • Risk Management

Academic Subjects (Advantageous)

  • Financial Accounting I, II, III
  • Auditing I
  • Mercantile Law I
  • Economics I and Business Economics I
  • Business Management I
  • Local Government Management I

Skills and Competencies

  • Fairly good written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy with practical experience
  • Proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape

Key Functions and Responsibilities

Successful interns will be exposed to a wide range of municipal finance functions, including:

  • General financial management in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Act 56 of 2003
  • Expenditure management and related financial activities
  • Revenue and cash management
  • Supply Chain Management processes
  • Budgeting and treasury management
  • Internal controls, auditing, and risk management
  • Other finance-related duties within the municipal environment

This programme offers hands-on experience across the full municipal finance value chain.
