3 x Stellenbosch Municipality Graduate Internships 2026

Stellenbosch Municipality invites suitably qualified graduates to apply for three (3) Graduate Intern positions within the Directorate: Planning & Economic Development, Department: Integrated Human Settlements. This is a 12-month paid internship programme designed to provide hands-on exposure in housing development, informal settlements, housing administration, and title deed transfer processes.

This opportunity is ideal for graduates in planning, development, engineering, and built-environment fields who want practical local-government experience in one of South Africa’s most dynamic municipalities.


Internship Overview

  • Position: Graduate Intern (Integrated Human Settlements) – X3 posts
  • Contract Duration: 12 months (one-year contract)
  • Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape
  • Closing Date: 17 January 2026

Monthly Stipend

  • Bachelor’s Degree: R6 500 per month
  • Honours Degree: R8 000 per month
  • Master’s Degree: R9 000 per month

About the Department: Integrated Human Settlements

The Integrated Human Settlements Department forms part of the Directorate: Planning & Economic Development and plays a critical role in:

  • Housing development initiatives
  • Informal settlements management
  • Housing administration
  • Supporting processes to effect title deed transfers

Graduate interns will work closely with Human Settlement Managers and gain real exposure to municipal planning and housing delivery systems.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma at NQF Level 7 in one of the following (or related fields):
    • Development Planning
    • Town Planning
    • Engineering
    • Human Settlements
    • Construction Management
    • Project Management
    • Development Studies

Academic Background

Applicants must have academic training in at least two (2) of the following areas:

  • Spatial Planning
  • Land Use Management
  • Development Facilitation
  • Development Information (GIS)
  • Integrated Human Settlements
  • Project Management

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office and GIS)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to draft reports and official documents
  • High attention to detail and accountability
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in at least two of the Western Cape official languages:
    • English
    • Afrikaans
    • isiXhosa

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful interns will:

  • Assist Human Settlement Managers with daily operational functions
  • Support housing development and informal settlements projects
  • Assist with housing administration and title deed processes
  • Contribute to planning, reporting, and project coordination activities
  • Support integrated human settlements delivery within the municipality

Recommendation

  • Preference may be given to applicants who reside in or near the Stellenbosch Municipal area
  • Applicants who previously submitted CVs for internship opportunities will also be considered
