Mogale City Local Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), invites applications from unemployed youth graduates to apply for the EPWP Youth Graduate Work Opportunities Programme 2026.

This programme forms part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and aims to provide young graduates with short-term work opportunities, practical experience, and exposure within environmental and municipal services.


EPWP Programme Overview

  • Duration: 5 months
  • Daily Stipend: R271.04

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • M+3 qualification (Matric plus 3 years of study) in one of the following fields:
    • Environment
    • Biodiversity
    • Conservation
    • Forestry
    • Air Quality
    • Landscaping & Horticulture
    • By-law Enforcement
    • Environmental Health
  • Be between 18 – 35 years of age
  • South African citizens
  • Preference will be given to graduates residing within Mogale City’s area of jurisdiction
  • People with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply

Available Positions and Responsibilities

Education & Awareness (3 Posts)

  • Develop and implement environmental education programmes
  • Create educational materials (leaflets, posters, displays)
  • Promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices
  • Monitor and evaluate education programme effectiveness

Climate Change (3 Posts)

  • Implement climate change programmes and initiatives

Environmental Compliance Promotion (3 Posts)

  • Conduct field investigations
  • Collect data to enforce regulations
  • Promote sustainable environmental practices

Landscaping (3 Posts)

  • Develop landscaping plans and masterplans
  • Develop an Urban Greening Strategy
  • Assist in designing public parks, gardens, and streetscapes
  • Support sustainable and indigenous planting schemes

Nature Conservation (1 Post)

  • Identify and control workplace hazards
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Assess biodiversity trends and conservation status

Urban Green / Horticulture (4 Posts)

  • Participate in tree planting and urban greening initiatives
  • Support community gardening and beautification projects

By-law Enforcement (9 Posts)

  • Profile illegal dumping hotspots
  • Capture photographic evidence of violations
  • Conduct inspections and information sessions
  • Support recycling initiatives and buyback centre inspections
  • Prepare by-law enforcement notices and fines

Environmental Health (3 Posts)

  • Analyse illegal dumping hotspots
  • Develop waste management databases
  • Develop standard operating procedures
  • Assess waste management revenue streams

Administration (2 Posts)

  • Office and records management
  • Administrative and clerical support
  • Assist with budgeting and reporting
  • Support project coordination and events
