Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR): Bursaries 2023

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2023 academic year.

Bursary Application Closing date is 15 July 2022.

The CSIR hereby invites applications from students wishing to pursue a career in research, technology development and innovation as well as corporate/support areas.

Who can apply


Current grade 12 or university students that intend to or are currently enrolled full-time for the degree of choice at a South African public university.

Please Note: Only specific fields of study (for Undergraduate, Honours, MSc and PhD) and thematic areas (for MSc and Phd) will be considered.

Undergrad: Science, Engineering & Technology Areas

Requirements

Current Grade 12:

  • Must be a South African Citizen.                                                                                                                                                 
  • Planning to enrol full-time at a South African University for 2023.
  • English Level 5 (60% – 69%), Mathematics Level 6 and Physics Level 6 (70% – 79%)

Current university students:

  • Must be a South African Citizen.                                                                                
  • Must be enrolled full-time at a South African University.
  • Must have passed all the courses for which you have registered for at the university for the study period already completed

Criteria

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Planning to enrol full-time at a South African University for 2023
  • Must have passed all the courses for which you have registered for at the university for the study period already completed

Applicants should be South African citizens who possess the following:

  • Good scientific writing skills;
  • Good organisational and time management skills;
  • Excellent academic record;
  • A drive to conduct research, self-motivation and the ability to work independently and within a team are essential;
  • The ability to formulate and carry out research;
  • Excellent technical abilities;
  • The ability to work well under pressure as part of a team and meet scheduled deliverables;
  • Good communication skills both verbal and writing (e.g. with evidence of report and/or conference papers writing); and
  • Good report writing abilities.

Required Documents

Please prepare the following documents:

  • A certified copy of your barcoded ID.
  • A copy of your CV.
  • All high school applicants must attach a certified copy of their grade 11 reports. If applicable, please provide proof of provisional university acceptance.
  • For students who have already completed their matric,please attach a certified copy of your matric certificate.
  • All tertiary students must submit certified copies of their matric results and their most recent official transcript. For applicants that have enrolled at multiple institutions during their tertiary studies, please combine all your transcripts into one document.
  • Proof of registration for students currently enrolled at a tertiary institution.
  • For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
