Oudtshoorn Municipality invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the position of Temporary Firefighter (x16 posts) within its Fire and Emergency Services division.

Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 (attach proof)
- 1-year operational experience
- Valid Code C1 driver’s licence (added advantage)
- Firefighter 1 – NFPA 1001 Certification (attach proof)
- Hazmat Awareness – NFPA 472 Certification (attach proof)
- Valid First Aid Level 3 (attach proof)
Additional Requirements
- Physically and mentally fit (medical note to be attached)
- Medical Test NFPA 1582 compliance (medical note to be attached)
- No criminal record
- No fear of heights and not claustrophobic
- Good communication skills
- Proficient in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
Physical Tests
Applicants must be able to pass:
- 2.4 km run
- Push-ups and sit-ups
- Hose drags
- Drum carry
- High test
- Claustrophobic test
- Swimming test
Key Performance Areas
- Render fire, emergency, and rescue services
- Participate in fire prevention inspections and programmes
- Maintain and clean fire station buildings, vehicles, and equipment
- Attend regular training, drills, and physical exercises
- Complete administrative tasks such as logbooks, incident reports, and occurrence books
- Inspect all firefighting and rescue equipment daily
- Perform standby and overtime duties when required
- Work in shifts and be available for overtime on short notice
- Assist in compiling emergency-related reports
