The Ruta Sechaba Foundation is inviting South African students to apply for their Scholarship Programme for the 2026 academic year.

About the Ruta Sechaba Foundation Scholarship
The Ruta Sechaba Foundation supports talented high school students by awarding scholarships that provide access to leading schools in South Africa. These scholarships are designed to create opportunities for learners to excel in academics or sports, within a supportive environment that enables them to reach their full potential.
The Foundation offers two types of scholarships:
- Academic Scholarships – for students who are excellent achievers in academics.
- Sports Scholarships – for students who are excellent achievers in sports.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 31 October 2025. Applicants will also be required to complete and pass a baseline assessment as part of the selection process.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be Black (African, Indian or Coloured) as defined by the B-BBEE Act.
- Must currently be in Grades 8 to 11.
- Must be an excellent achiever in either academics or sports.
- Must be highly motivated and determined to succeed.
- Must be financially needy, with a gross combined household income of not more than R45 000 per month.
Academic Scholarship Applicants:
- Minimum 65% in Mathematics.
- Minimum 65% in English.
- Minimum 65% overall average in your latest academic report.
Sports Scholarship Applicants:
- Must have been awarded national or provincial colours for one or more of the top 20 ranked sports in South Africa.
- Must maintain a minimum 60% academic average.
Required Documents
Submit clear, certified copies of the following with your online application:
- South African ID document or Birth Certificate.
- School reports: 2024 Term 4 and 2025 Terms 1 & 2.
- Parents/guardians ID documents.
- Parents/guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed; affidavit + 3 months bank statement if unemployed; proof of SASSA grant if applicable).
- Parents/guardians proof of address.
- Motivational letter (1 page) written by the applicant.
Note: Applications without all supporting documents will be disqualified.
