Requirements

To qualify for the General Worker posts, applicants must have:

  • Grade 07 or ABET Level 3
  • Basic reading and writing skills
  • No experience required
  • Must be physically fit, able to bend, stoop, kneel, lift, push, and carry heavy objects
  • Good sight ability
  • Willingness to work shifts
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and elevated heights
  • Medical Certificate required
  • Note: Graduates in relevant fields will be prioritised.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will perform general labour duties across municipal sites. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Water & Sanitation Support

  • Digging trenches and backfilling
  • Loading and offloading pipes, fittings, and materials
  • Assisting plumbers with repairing burst pipes and clearing blocked sewer lines

Facility & Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Cleaning surroundings such as pump stations, reservoirs, offices, boreholes
  • Washing and removing debris from tools and vehicles
  • Cleaning equipment using brushes and high-pressure hoses
  • Storing tools and reporting damaged equipment

Cemetery & Parks Maintenance

  • Grave digging
  • Litter picking and general cemetery maintenance
  • Grass cutting and gardening
  • Maintenance of parks, reserves, and open spaces

Fleet & Office Cleaning Duties

  • Cleaning pool vehicles
  • Replacing refuse bags and moving waste to collection points
  • Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and dishwashing
  • Cleaning kitchens and ablution facilities
  • Stocking cleaning materials and reporting defective items
  • Cleaning machines such as hoovers and scrubbers
