South African Weather Service: TVET Learnerships 2026

South African Weather Service (SAWS) invites South African TVET College learners to apply for the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme 2026, an 18-month structured programme aimed at providing practical workplace exposure required to complete a National Diploma.

About the South African Weather Service (SAWS)

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is South Africa’s official national meteorological service, responsible for weather and climate services, aviation meteorology, and early warning systems. SAWS plays a critical role in public safety, aviation, agriculture, marine services and disaster risk reduction.


About the Work Integrated Learning Programme

The SAWS Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme is an 18-month practical training programme designed for TVET College learners who have completed their theoretical studies and require workplace exposure to qualify for a National Diploma.

The programme offers hands-on experience in a professional technical environment and supports skills development aligned with national priorities.


Field of Study Available

SAWS is inviting applications in the following field:

  • Electrical Engineering N6
    • Number of Positions: 3
    • Reference Number: SAWSELECTRICWIL 2026

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Must have just completed an N6 in Electrical Engineering
  • Must not have completed relevant practical experience exceeding one (1) year after N6 completion
  • Must submit:
    • N3–N6 Certificates of Achievement
    • Official letter from the TVET College confirming that 18 months of practical experience is required to complete the National Diploma
  • CV must clearly indicate ID number, residential address and contact details
  • People Living with Disabilities will be given preference
    • A medical confirmation letter from a doctor must be provided

Stipend and Other Conditions

  • Monthly Stipend: R5 500.00
  • Learners must arrange their own accommodation and transport to the SAWS Centurion offices
  • SAWS is under no obligation to offer permanent employment after completion of the programme
