About the Programme Provider – Nedbank
Nedbank is one of South Africa’s leading banking groups, with a strong commitment to economic transformation, skills development, and youth empowerment. Through its participation in the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, Nedbank plays an active role in addressing youth unemployment by providing structured workplace exposure across its national operations.
What Is the YES (Youth Employment Service) Programme?
The YES Programme is a business-led partnership with government aimed at reducing youth unemployment in South Africa. It provides young people with the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience, develop new skills, and improve their employability.
The Nedbank YES Programme is not a learnership, internship, or apprenticeship. Instead, it focuses on quality work experience in a real working environment.
Who Can Apply for the Nedbank YES Programme?
South African youth who meet all of the following requirements may apply:
- Must be between 18 and 29 years old as of 1 May 2026
(born between 2 May 1997 and 1 May 2008) - Must have at least a Matric (Grade 12) qualification, OR
- Must have completed a post-matric qualification at one of the following levels:
- NQF Level 5 (Higher Certificate)
- NQF Level 6 (Diploma)
- NQF Level 7 (Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree)
- Must be currently unemployed
- Must be South African-born African, Coloured, or Indian citizens, in line with the BBBEE Act definition of “black people”
- Must not have participated in a YES Programme with another organisation before
Duration and Start Date of the Programme
Successful applicants will be employed on a 12-month fixed-term contract to gain quality work experience.
- Programme duration: 12 months
- Expected start date: 01 May 2026
Stipend Information
Nedbank YES youth will receive a monthly stipend, guided by the official YES Programme framework.
A stipend is financial support intended to assist with:
- Living expenses
- Food
- Travel-related costs
Where Will the Work Experience Take Place?
The Nedbank YES Programme will be hosted at Nedbank branches, offices, and sites across South Africa.
Key points to note:
- Some roles may offer hybrid or remote work options, depending on the division and job requirements
- Youth may be required to work weekdays and/or shifts, which can include weekends and public holidays
- Participants must be able to travel to and from the workplace
