City of Cape Town invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Energy Apprentice position within the Support Services Energy Directorate.

This is an excellent opportunity for young individuals passionate about the electrical field to gain structured training and workplace experience within one of South Africa’s leading metropolitan municipalities.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Energy Apprentice Programme, applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • A minimum of an NTC 3 technical qualification (Electrical Trade Theory, Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics or any other subject in the Heavy Current stream) with Matric
    OR
  • Technical Matric (Grade 12 – English, Electrical Trade Theory, Mathematics, Physical Science and any other subject)
    OR
  • Full NCV 4 Electrical qualification (with 7 subjects)

Additional requirements:

  • A strong passion for the Electrical Field
  • Must reside within the City of Cape Town metropole
  • A valid driver’s licence (Code C1 – old Code 10 – is recommended)
  • Must not have qualified in any trade by the time the programme starts
  • Must not be in possession of a National S Diploma qualification or higher

Important Medical Requirements

Candidates with medical conditions that may negatively impact participation in the Apprenticeship Programme will not be considered. This includes conditions such as:

  • Epilepsy
  • Colour blindness
  • Any other condition that may affect safe performance of duties
