Purpose of the Internship

The Mintek Internship Programme aims to:

  • Provide graduates with practical workplace experience
  • Bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice
  • Enhance long-term employability in research and development

The successful intern will support groundbreaking research by leveraging minerals as foundational building blocks for advanced nanosystems.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Investigations & Design

  • Conduct nanomaterial synthesis and characterisation
  • Perform system integration and contribute to prototype design
  • Assist in drafting technical reports and design documentation
  • Collaborate with project teams on technical investigations

Project & Contract Management Support

  • Track project progress and maintain detailed records
  • Liaise with stakeholders to resolve project-related issues
  • Ensure compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) standards
  • Support regulatory and environmental compliance activities

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare detailed progress reports
  • Document technical findings for audit and reference purposes
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation

Capacity Building & Skill Development

  • Participate in technical learning opportunities
  • Build expertise in health and environmental safety
  • Contribute innovative ideas for improved project execution

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in:
    • Chemistry OR
    • Chemical Engineering
  • Excellent academic record (minimum 60% average)
  • South African citizen

  • Certified copy of South African ID
