The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board โ Maritime Centre of Excellence is offering a 12-month internship programme aimed at equipping graduates with valuable workplace experience. The programme provides practical training, mentorship, and exposure to various fields while supporting marine safety, research, and public engagement in KwaZulu-Natal.
Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R7 000 during the internship period.
About the Internship Programme
The KZN Sharks Board Internship Programme 2026 provides graduates with an opportunity to gain practical experience in fields related to research, corporate services, and business development.
Interns will work with experienced professionals while contributing to projects related to marine safety, environmental research, tourism promotion, and operational services.

Corporate Services Directorate
Health and Safety Intern (Ref: HS0326)
Qualifications required:
- National Diploma or Degree in Health and Safety
- NQF Level 6 or 7
Responsibilities may include:
- Monitoring workplace safety compliance
- Conducting risk assessments
- Assisting with safety audits and reporting
- Supporting occupational health and safety policies
Facilities Management: Motor Mechanic Intern (Ref: FM0326)
Qualifications required:
- Occupational Certificate: Automotive Motor Mechanic
or - Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- NQF Level 4โ7
Responsibilities may include:
- Maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Mechanical inspections and servicing
- Assisting technical teams with operational safety equipment
Research Directorate
Research Intern (Ref: RES0326)
Qualifications required:
- National Diploma or Bachelorโs Degree in:
- Marine Biology
- Environmental Science
- Zoology
- NQF Level 6 or 7
Responsibilities may include:
- Marine ecosystem monitoring
- Shark population research
- Ocean biodiversity studies
- Environmental conservation projects
Business Development Directorate
Tourism / Marketing / Public Relations / Communications Intern (Ref: BDD0326)
Qualifications required:
- National Diploma or Degree in:
- Tourism
- Marketing
- Public Relations
- Communications Management
- NQF Level 6 or 7
Responsibilities may include:
- Tourism programme coordination
- Marketing campaigns and branding initiatives
- Public awareness programmes
- Media and communications support
Internship Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be an unemployed graduate
- Must hold a National Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6 or 7)
- Qualification must be obtained from a recognised institution
- Must be willing to participate in a 12-month internship programme
