SANParks invites South African unemployed graduates to apply for the Mega Living Landscapes Internship Programme 2026.

South African National Parks (SANParks) is offering an exciting 12-month internship opportunity in the Park Planning and Development Unit for the position of Mega Living Landscapes Intern.

The Mega Living Landscapes (MLL) initiative focuses on conserving biodiversity at a larger landscape scale while promoting collaboration between communities, landowners, and conservation partners. The programme recognises the link between biodiversity protection, climate resilience, and human well-being.

The successful intern will support projects in the Cape and Garden Route regions, gaining exposure to biodiversity stewardship, protected area expansion, stakeholder engagement, and landscape-scale conservation.


Internship Responsibilities

The intern will assist with the following activities:

  • Assist with implementing biodiversity stewardship and cross-sectoral conservation activities in priority landscapes.
  • Support operational planning and implementation of SANParks Mega Living Landscapes projects.
  • Assist with mapping and spatial analysis using GIS tools.
  • Support the coordination of technical assistance interventions for stewardship sites.
  • Assist with capacity building and awareness initiatives related to conservation stewardship.
  • Provide support with project administration, monitoring, and progress reporting.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in one of the following fields:
    • Nature Conservation
    • Environmental Management
    • Environmental Sciences
    • or a related qualification
  • Code 08 driver’s licence (essential requirement)
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages
  • Working knowledge of GIS
  • Experience assisting in conservation-related projects
  • 1–2 years working experience in the Cape Floristic Region
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills
  • Good project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • High levels of responsibility and accountability
  • Willingness to travel when required

Advantage:

  • Knowledge of protected area expansion mechanisms
  • Understanding of landscape-scale conservation practices

Internship Stipend

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R8 750.
