Job Purpose
The First Officer will support the Captain in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of flights, while maintaining high professional and safety standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Ensure the safety of flights at all times
- Monitor aircraft systems and flight path
- Perform checks before, during, and after flights
- Communicate with crew, passengers, and service providers
- Ensure compliance with aviation regulations and company procedures
- Complete all required flight documentation
- Assume command if the Captain becomes incapacitated
Pre-Flight Duties
- Review flight routes, weather conditions, and runway status
- Perform required safety and operational checks
- Assist with fuel planning and operational decisions
In-Flight Duties
- Monitor flight instruments (altitude, speed, heading)
- Execute and monitor checklists (normal, abnormal, emergency)
- Report any deviations or hazards immediately
- Conduct radio communications as required
Post-Flight Duties
- Complete all required reports and documentation
- Ensure compliance with post-flight procedures
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
- SACAA Commercial Pilot License (Essential)
- SACAA ATPL (Preferred)
- Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate
- Minimum 1500 flight hours (including 500 multi-turbine hours)
- Multi-crew experience
- Valid South African driver’s license and own transport
- Valid South African passport
- No criminal record
- Willing to undergo drug and alcohol testing
- Must be able to work irregular hours
Advantageous Requirements
- Boeing type rating
- Experience on commercial jets over 20 tons
- Knowledge of SACAA, ICAO regulations and Doc 8186
