Southern Sphere Platinum is a mining exploration and development company focusing on platinum group metals (PGMs) and chrome in the Steelpoort region. The bursary is available for students studying in the following fields:
- Chemical Engineering
- Data Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Environmental Science / Environmental Management / Ecology / Conservation Biology
- Geology
- Information Technology / Computer Science
- Legal
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Process Engineering
Bursary Benefits
The bursary covers expenses up to R200 000 per student, including:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- Accommodation (residence or approved housing)
- Meal allowance
Note: The bursary does not cover outstanding fees from previous years.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside in Sekhukhune District (Limpopo)
- Must be studying in one of the listed fields
- Must be entering 2nd year of study in 2026
- Must have a minimum average of 60% in 1st year
- Must be studying at one of these universities:
- University of Limpopo
- North-West University
- University of the Witwatersrand
- University of Johannesburg
- University of Pretoria
- Must not be receiving another bursary
- Preference given to students with financial need
Required Documents
Submit the following documents:
- Motivational letter
- Certified copy of ID
- Matric certificate
- Full academic record (1st year)
- Proof of registration/acceptance
- Proof of residence in Sekhukhune District
Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 21 days after the closing date
- Additional assessments (psychometric tests or interviews) may be required
