Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) invites South African professionals to apply for the TETA Scholarship at the World Maritime University (WMU) for the 2027 academic year.

Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) is responsible for skills development and training within South Africa’s transport sector.

World Maritime University (WMU) was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and offers advanced postgraduate programmes in maritime and ocean-related studies, aligned with global development goals.


About the Scholarship Programme

The TETA Scholarship provides full funding for selected candidates to study towards a:

  • MSc in Maritime Affairs

at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden.

This opportunity is aimed at South Africans currently working in the maritime sector, helping them gain advanced knowledge and contribute to the growth of the industry.


Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be academically accepted by WMU
  • Must be currently employed
  • Must have worked with the same employer for at least 12 months
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the maritime sector
  • Must have employer approval to study and return after completion
  • Preference is given to female candidates and middle management employees

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed WMU application (with Matric certificate)
  • Certified copy of ID
  • Certified copy of passport (if available)
  • Proof of passport application (if passport not yet available)
  • TETA motivational statement
  • Employer support letter
  • Employer financial support form (submitted via email)
  • Signed scholarship terms and conditions
