Bursary Overview
The Sasol Mainstream Bursary Programme 2027 offers a comprehensive funding package for students pursuing full-time university studies in engineering and science fields.
The bursary includes:
- Full financial support (tuition, accommodation, etc.)
- Developmental support and mentorship
- Possible employment through Sasol’s Graduate Development Programmes
⚠️ Note: This bursary includes a workback/payback obligation after completion of studies.
Fields of Study
Undergraduate (BEng / BSc)
Applicants may study the following:
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Chemistry (up to Honours level required)
- Geology (up to Honours level required)
- Data Science (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research)
Undergraduate (BEng Tech)
- Mine Surveying (University of Technology only)
Postgraduate (MSc / MEng / PhD)
Fields include:
- Chemical Engineering (Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Process Modelling, etc.)
- Chemistry (Catalysis, Polymer Science, Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry)
- Cyber Security
- Data Science (Applied Mathematics, Statistics)
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be under 30 years of age
- Intend to study full-time at a recognised South African university
- Have strong academic results
⚠️ Important:
- Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) is required
- No distance learning (e.g., UNISA not accepted)
- Only degree programmes (no diplomas)
Important Conditions
- Only one application per applicant is allowed
- Applications must be submitted online only
- Incorrect or incomplete information will result in disqualification
- Selection is highly competitive
- Bursaries are awarded based on academic performance and Sasol business needs

- Academic results (Grade 11 or latest results)
- Certified ID copy
- Any additional required supporting documents
