Internship Overview

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) is offering a 24-month internship programme running from 01 July 2026 to 30 June 2028.

This programme is designed to equip graduates with practical workplace experience, skills, and knowledge to enhance their employability in the public sector and beyond.

Successful candidates will gain exposure to government systems while contributing to building a dynamic, inclusive, and globally competitive South African economy.


Internship Stipend

  • Monthly Stipend: R7 860.50
  • Stipend may vary depending on the highest qualification at the time of appointment

Applicants must hold a tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6 and above) in one of the following fields:

  • Public Management / Public Administration
  • Business Management / Business Administration
  • Human Resource Management / Development
  • Communication / Public Relations
  • Law
  • Software Development
  • Economics
  • Statistics / Econometrics
  • Agricultural Economics / Forestry Science
  • Development Studies
  • Accounting / Financial Management / Cost and Management Accounting
  • Risk Management
  • Internal Auditing / Auditing
  • Natural Sciences (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering)
  • Mining Engineering / Metallurgy Commerce
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Supply Chain Management / Procurement
  • International Politics

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be an unemployed South African graduate
  • Have a qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate professionalism and integrity
  • Be analytical with attention to detail
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Show willingness to learn and understand government systems and processes
