Midvaal Local Municipality is participating in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) to help reduce unemployment and poverty by creating work opportunities for unemployed people.
Available Sections
Applicants must clearly indicate which section they are interested in when submitting their application.
The available EPWP General Worker positions are:
Roads and Storm Water Section: 20 positions
Engineering Services Department: 10 positions
The Engineering Services posts are within the Water, Purification and Sewer Sections.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
Grade 10, ability to understand English, and must be bilingual. Applicants must reside within the jurisdiction of Midvaal Local Municipality.
Applicants must also be able to follow and execute instructions, be in excellent physical health, have basic skills and understanding of the work area, and be able to perform physically demanding work in different weather conditions.
Applicants must meet the operational requirements of the post, be hardworking and self-disciplined.
Applicants must have at least 0 to 1 year experience in general worker, labourer or labour-intensive duties.
Applicants must be unemployed or serving the last three months of a contracted term.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be responsible for labour-intensive duties, including loading and off-loading materials, tools and equipment used for daily tasks.
Other duties include placing traffic signs to warn motorists about work being done next to municipal roads, cleaning in and around the working area, and using various manual labour equipment and tools.
Applicants may also be required to operate manual and electrical tools to perform labour-related work.
Successful candidates must execute lawful instructions from supervisors to ensure productivity and the smooth running of the section.
They may also be required to perform other related ad hoc tasks and duties as requested by management or supervisors.
Important Notes for Applicants
Due to operational requirements, the EPWP roles advertised are available for male candidates only.
The roles are elementary and aimed at attracting unskilled and semi-skilled applicants.
The opportunity is not ward-specific, and all residents of Midvaal are encouraged to apply.
Specific preference will be given to youth between the ages of 18 and 35.
Applicants who reside in neighbouring municipalities such as Lesedi Local Municipality, Emfuleni Local Municipality, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane, Mogale City, West Rand District and Sedibeng District will be disqualified.
Any applicant who provides false or misrepresented information will be disqualified.
Incomplete, unclear or illegible CVs will not be considered. Applications without CVs will also be disqualified.
