Position Details
EPWP Skilled Fire Fighters (X19 Posts)
- Business Unit: Disaster Management & Fire Services
- Duration: 12 Months (EPWP Fixed Contract)
- Salary: R7 500 per month

- Age Requirement: 18 – 35 Years
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Fire Fighter I qualification
- Fire Fighter II with Hazmat Operations or equivalent
- SAQCC accredited qualification from:
- SASEI
- IFE
- Clean criminal record
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
- Medical test NFPA 1582
- 0–1 years relevant experience
- Valid Code C1 Driver’s Licence
Candidates must also be willing to:
- Work shifts
- Work weekends and public holidays
Required Competencies
Applicants should possess:
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Teamwork and discipline
- Knowledge of firefighting equipment and procedures
- Understanding of occupational health and safety
- Ability to carry heavy equipment
- Ability to handle stressful situations
- Must not be claustrophobic
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will:
- Attend fire and rescue calls
- Operate within emergency response teams
- Man control room operations
- Conduct daily vehicle and equipment inspections
- Attend Haz-Mat calls and special services
- Maintain fire station equipment and vehicles
- Participate in group inspections and drills
- Provide fire prevention services
- Perform duties instructed by supervisors
Screening and Compliance Requirements
Successful candidates will undergo:
- Criminal record checks
- Physical fitness assessments/tests
- Medical examinations to determine fitness

- These posts form part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)
- Successful candidates must be prepared to work in various geographical areas of the City of Polokwane’s fire stations
- Preference will be given to applicants residing within the City of Polokwane jurisdiction
