About the AFGRI Apprenticeship Programme

AFGRI Equipment is offering 40 apprenticeship opportunities for young South Africans who want to qualify as:

  • Tractor Mechanics
  • Earthmoving Mechanics

The apprenticeship programme combines practical workplace training, formal learning, and technical product training over a period of approximately three years.

Successful candidates will gain hands-on experience in servicing and maintaining agricultural, construction, forestry, and earthmoving equipment.

Apprenticeship Training Structure

Probation Period

  • First 6 months serve as a probation period
  • Both AFGRI and the apprentice assess long-term suitability
  • Either party may withdraw during this period

Formal Training Includes

  • Practical training institute attendance
  • Distance learning through accredited colleges
  • Product training by suppliers and AFGRI specialists
  • Internal technical training programmes

Training support is provided through:

  • AgriSETA
  • merSETA

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful apprentices will assist with:

  • Repair and maintenance of equipment
  • Mechanical servicing
  • Stock control
  • Customer service
  • General workshop duties
  • Technical training activities

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Valid driverโ€™s licence
  • Good communication skills
  • Administrative skills
  • Computer literacy

Required Subjects

  • English
  • Mathematics or Technical Mathematics
    • Mathematical Literacy is NOT accepted

Advantageous Subjects

  • Physical Science
  • Engineering Science
  • Engineering Graphics & Design
  • Diesel Trade Theory
  • Motor Trade Theory

Important Information

  • Apprenticeship duration is approximately 3 years
  • Apprentices may need to attend Saturday classes
  • Failed subjects or phases must be repeated at the apprenticeโ€™s own cost
  • Apprenticeship contracts cannot exceed 4 years
