Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary Programme 2027

Applications are now open for the Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary Programme 2027.

The bursary programme supports students who are studying scarce skills qualifications that can help develop skilled professionals for future employment in South Africa.

For the 2027 academic year, the Schauenburg Education Trust will focus on students in their second, third and fourth years of study in selected fields.

Fields of Study Funded

Bursaries for the 2027 academic year are available for students studying the following qualifications:

Electrical Engineering, either BEng or BSc.

Business Management, BCom Degree.

Business Administration, BCom Degree.

Eligible Universities

For the 2027 intake, only students from the following universities in Gauteng may apply:

University of Pretoria.

University of Johannesburg.

North-West University, Vanderbijlpark Campus.

University of the Witwatersrand.

No bursaries will be awarded to students studying at a University of Technology or College for the 2027 academic year.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must be full-time first, second or third year students.

Applicants must be studying towards Electrical Engineering, Business Management or Business Administration qualifications.

Applicants must be South African citizens with valid South African ID numbers.

Applicants must be Black persons as defined by B-BBEE legislation.

Preference will be given to Black women, Black students under the age of 35 and Black students with disabilities.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must be able to show good academic progress during their first, second or third year of study.

Applicants must have passed all courses for which they registered while at university.

This means applicants should provide a full academic record reflecting their most recent tertiary results.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must be willing to attend interviews.

Applicants must be willing to undergo psychometric testing.

Applicants must also be willing to spend a minimum of three weeks of their mid-year university holidays attending a vacation work or job-shadowing programme at Schauenburg Systems (Pty) Ltd.

What the Bursary Covers

The Schauenburg Education Trust bursary may cover some or all of the following costs:

100% of prescribed university tuition fees.

Registration fees.

Exam fees.

Accommodation allowance equal to the average rate for a single room at a university hostel.

Textbooks and course material.

Living allowance.

Tuition, registration and exam fees may be paid directly to the university.

Accommodation payments and other allowances will be determined by the Trustees of the Schauenburg Education Trust.

Selection Process

Applications for the 2027 academic year must be received before 31 July 2026.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the bursary administrators and the Trustees.

Successful applicants will receive details about the Schauenburg Education Bursary Scheme, a written contract and other documents for completion.

Important Information

Bursaries will not be awarded to students who are already receiving another bursary for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded based on objective merit, financial need and other criteria determined by the Trustees.

The Trustees have full discretion in awarding bursaries.

A bursary may be cancelled or withdrawn if the applicantโ€™s conduct or academic results do not meet the requirements of the Trust or if the applicant breaches the bursary agreement.

The Trustees may identify and amend the list of specified universities at any time.
