About the Andru Mining Blasting Assistant Learnership

Andru Mining has announced 10 Blasting Assistant Learnership opportunities for 2026 at its Kalgold Operation.

The learnership programme will run for 4 months and is aimed at members of recognised local communities surrounding the mine. It offers participants an opportunity to gain practical experience and develop skills needed in the opencast mining industry.

This is not a permanent job, but it can help successful learners gain valuable workplace exposure and improve their chances of future employment in the mining sector.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric / Std 10 certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Must be able to obtain a Certificate of Fitness, also known as a Red Ticket
  • Must have a clean criminal record
  • Must successfully pass a Dover Test
  • Valid driver’s licence is compulsory
  • Must be willing to undergo training across different work shifts
  • Good communication skills
  • Good business understanding
  • Must be a recognised resident of the affected local communities, subject to verification

Important Requirements Explained

Certificate of Fitness / Red Ticket

A Certificate of Fitness, commonly known as a Red Ticket, confirms that a person is medically fit to work in the mining environment after completing occupational medical examinations.

Dover Test

The Dover Test is commonly used in the mining industry to assess concentration, attention to detail, mental alertness, ability to follow instructions and general aptitude.

Driver’s Licence

A valid driver’s licence is compulsory for this learnership. Applicants without a driver’s licence may not meet the minimum requirements.
