About Coronation Exceptional Student Bursary 2027
Coronation Fund Managers is inviting students to apply for the Coronation Exceptional Student Bursary for the 2027 academic year.
The bursary is aimed at academically strong students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are studying or intend to study towards undergraduate Commerce-related degrees.
Fields of Study Covered
The bursary will cover undergraduate Commerce-related degree qualifications.
Preference will be given to students registered in the following fields:
- Data Analysis / IT Stream Degrees
- Commerce Stream Degrees
- Finance Stream Degrees
- Computer Science Stream Degrees
- Software / Computer Engineering Stream Degrees
The bursary will not fund:
- N4, N5 or N6 qualifications
- Higher Certificate qualifications
- Diploma qualifications
- Advanced Diploma qualifications
- Masterโs degrees
- Doctoral degrees
- Distance-learning qualifications
- Studies at TVET Colleges, Community Colleges, Private Colleges, Graduate Schools, Business Schools or international universities
What the Bursary Covers
The final details of expenses covered by the bursary will be confirmed when successful applicants receive their final bursary award or pledge letter.
The bursary is renewable each year, based on:
- Academic performance
- Student engagement
- Sponsor budgets
After graduation, bursary recipients will be required to enter into a work-back commitment contract. Students will be required to work one year for each year of funding received.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be South African citizens
- Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Must be studying or intending to study full-time towards an undergraduate Commerce-related degree
- Must be studying or have applied to study at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- Must have an excellent academic record
- Must show strong leadership potential
- Must be a well-rounded student
Academic Requirements
Current Matric students must have achieved:
- Minimum overall average of 75%
Current university students must have achieved:
- Minimum overall average of 70%
Preference Will Be Given To
Preference will be given to:
- Students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds
- Students in line with the sponsorโs transformation and employment equity objectives
- Students in their second year of study onwards
- Students on track to complete their qualification in the minimum required time, not N+1 or higher
- Students in preferred fields such as Data Analysis, IT, Commerce, Finance, Computer Science and Software or Computer Engineering
Selection Process
All applicants will receive an email confirming that their application has been received.
Applicants will later be informed if their application was unsuccessful.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to:
- Attend an interview
- Complete psychometric assessments
Applicants who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
Documents Required
Applicants must submit clear copies of the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of ID document
- Grade 11 final results and latest Matric Term 2 results, if currently in Matric, with official school stamp
- Certified copy of Matric certificate, if Matric is completed
- University acceptance letter or provisional acceptance, if available
- Proof of registration for the current academic year, if currently enrolled, on institution letterhead
- Latest academic transcript, if currently studying
- One-page statement explaining why you chose your field of study and what you intend to do with your qualification after graduation
- Letter of recommendation from someone who can confirm your academic performance and personal character
- Curriculum Vitae
- Proof of monthly household family income
- Bursary agreement, letter or offer, if receiving funding from another bursary or NSFAS
Additional Documents for Specific Applicants
Students under 18 must submit:
- Completed and signed consent form by a parent or guardian
- Certified copy of parent or guardian ID document
Students living with a disability must submit:
- Department of Labour Employment Equity Act EEA1 Form
- Doctorโs letter

Applicants should note:
- All certified documents must be less than three months old
- Where multiple documents are required for one submission, applicants should combine or scan them into one file before uploading
- Missing documents may result in disqualification
