About TuksSport UP Sport Performance Bursary 2027
TuksSport, the sport department of the University of Pretoria, is inviting applications for the University of Pretoria Sport Performance Support Bursary for the 2027 academic year.
The bursary is aimed at talented student-athletes who will join, participate in and excel in their respective sporting disciplines at the University of Pretoria.
The programme supports athletes in developing their sporting talent while also pursuing a tertiary qualification.

TuksSport is part of the University of Pretoria and is recognised as one of the leading university sport programmes in South Africa.
The programme provides support through experienced and professional coaches who guide athletes to reach their full potential while participating in university sport.
Sports Covered by the Bursary
Bursaries may be awarded to students who excel in the following sports:

- Athletics
- Badminton
- Basketball
- Canoe
- Chess
- Cricket
- Cycling
- Fencing
- Football
- Golf
- Gymnastics
- Hockey
- Judo
- Karate
- Netball
- Rowing
- Rugby
- Squash
- Swimming
- Tennis
- Trampoline
- Triathlon
- Volleyball
- Wrestling
What the Bursary Covers
The Sport Performance Support Bursary is awarded for one sport code only.
Students cannot receive funding for more than one sport code.
Bursaries are awarded for one academic year at a time. Students must re-apply for funding each year.
Bursary Renewal
Bursary renewal is based on:
- Academic performance
- Sporting performance
- Training attendance
- Commitment to the programme
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be accepted and registered as full-time students at the University of Pretoria for the 2027 academic year
- Must excel in one of the listed sporting disciplines
- Must be willing to participate in TuksSport activities and programmes
- Must meet the relevant sporting and academic expectations
Selection Criteria
Bursary recipients will be selected based on the following:
- Availability of funds according to TuksSport club priorities
- Shortage of athletes in the club for specific events or playing positions
- Position on sport-specific South African Junior and Senior rankings
- Position on international rankings
- Ability to qualify for international competitions
- Potential performances at USSA competitions
- Participation potential in Varsity Sport SA and Varsity Cup competitions
- Sporting discipline and performance level
Application Documents Required
Applicants must submit clear copies of the following supporting documents:
- Full-length action shot photograph, A5 size in JPEG format
- Grade 11 school results, if currently in Matric and entering first year of study in 2027
- Sports Curriculum Vitae
- Other information or achievements, including leadership, cultural activities or associations
- Sports Performance Support Application
What to Include in the Sports CV
The Sports Curriculum Vitae should include:
- Sporting performance history
- Current training plans
- Training plan to be followed during Matric exams until arrival at university, if currently in Matric
- Strong points
- Weak points
- Areas being focused on during training sessions
- Relevant achievements and sporting highlights
Important Notes for Applicants Under 18
Applicants who are under 18 years old must have their application signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Selection Process
Applicants will receive acknowledgement after submitting their application.
Applicants who do not receive acknowledgement within three weeks of applying should contact their specific TuksSport club.
