Valterra Platinum is offering comprehensive bursary opportunities to students pursuing qualifications in Information Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology and Geomatics.

The bursary programme provides financial support, practical workplace exposure, mentorship and possible entry into the Valterra Platinum Graduate Programme after successful completion of studies.

Information Management Bursary

Valterra Platinum is inviting first-year and final-year students studying Information Management, Information Systems, Computer Science or related fields to apply.

Eligible Information Management Qualifications

Applicants must be studying full-time towards one of the following qualifications at a recognised South African university:

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Management
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Systems
  • Bachelor of Commerce in Information Systems
  • Bachelor of Commerce in Informatics
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
  • Bachelor of Science in Data Science
  • Bachelor of Commerce in Business Analytics
  • Bachelor of Science in Statistics
  • Data Analytics or a related qualification

Information Management Bursary Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be registered as full-time students.
  • Be in their first or final year of study.
  • Have achieved a minimum overall academic average of 65%.
  • Demonstrate commitment to their chosen field of study.

Mining Engineering Bursary

Valterra Platinum is inviting final-year Mining Engineering students who intend to pursue Honours studies in 2027 to apply.

Eligible Mining Engineering Qualification

Applicants must be enrolled full-time for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mining Engineering

Mining Engineering Bursary Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be in their final year of undergraduate study.
  • Be studying at a recognised South African university.
  • Have achieved a minimum overall academic average of 65%.
  • Intend to pursue an Honours qualification in 2027.
  • Submit a full academic transcript and supporting documents.

Geotechnical and Rock Engineering Bursary (X1 Opportunity)

Valterra Platinum is offering one bursary opportunity to a Mining Engineering or Geology student interested in pursuing a career in Geotechnical or Rock Engineering.

The bursary recipient will study full-time at university and may join the Valterra Platinum Graduate Programme after completing the qualification.

Graduate rotations may take place at:

  • Amandelbult Mine in Thabazimbi
  • Mogalakwena Mine in Mokopane
  • Mototolo Mine in Burgersfort

Geotechnical Bursary Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be final-year undergraduate students.
  • Be studying Mining Engineering or Geology.
  • Intend to pursue an Honours qualification in 2027.
  • Intend to pursue a career in Geotechnical or Rock Engineering.
  • Have achieved a minimum average of 65% in their latest available results.
  • Submit a full academic transcript.
  • Provide proof of Honours acceptance once available.

Geomatics and Mine Surveying Bursary (X4 Opportunities)

Valterra Platinum is offering four bursary opportunities to students interested in Geomatics and Mine Surveying.

Applications are open to:

  • Grade 12 learners who will begin their first year of university studies in 2027; and
  • Final-year undergraduate students who intend to pursue Honours studies in 2027.

Bursary recipients will study full-time at university and may later be placed in the Valterra Platinum Graduate Programme, with rotations across the mining value chain.

Eligible Geomatics Qualifications

Applicants must intend to study or already be studying towards one of the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Surveying
  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mine Surveying

First-Year Geomatics Bursary Requirements

Grade 12 applicants must provide:

  • Provisional or final university admission for an eligible qualification
  • Grade 11 final results or the latest available Grade 12 results
  • Proof of a minimum overall academic average of 65%
  • Supporting documents and relevant achievements

Final-Year or Honours Geomatics Requirements

Final-year applicants must:

  • Be studying an eligible Surveying or Mine Surveying qualification.
  • Intend to pursue an Honours qualification in 2027.
  • Have achieved a minimum average of 65%.
  • Submit full academic transcripts.
  • Provide proof of Honours acceptance once available.

General Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Be studying or intending to study at a recognised South African university.
  • Meet the academic requirements for their selected bursary.
  • Have a minimum overall academic average of 65%.
  • Submit all required supporting documents.
  • Provide accurate information regarding their residential address and local community status.

Preference for Local Communities

Preference may be given to applicants from communities located near Valterra Platinum operations.

These operations include:

  • Rustenburg in North West
  • Polokwane in Limpopo
  • Thabazimbi in Limpopo
  • Burgersfort in Limpopo
  • Mokopane in Limpopo

Applicants who declare that they are local residents must ensure that the information supplied is correct.

Valterra Platinum reserves the right to terminate a bursary agreement where an applicant falsely declares that they are from a local operational community.
