The City of Johannesburg invites qualifying students and graduates residing in Johannesburg to apply for the Transport Finance Revenue Internship Programme 2026.

About the City of Johannesburg Internship Programme

The City of Johannesburgโ€™s Student Internship Programme provides qualifying students with practical workplace exposure.

The programme is intended for students who need on-the-job training as part of an academic qualification, as well as graduates who require experiential training after completing their studies.

Successful applicants will be placed within the City of Johannesburg Transport Departmentโ€™s Finance Branch.

The internship will run for a period not exceeding 18 months.

Internship Stipend

Successful applicants will receive a monthly basic salary without benefits.

The stipend is structured as follows:

  • Applicants who have completed a qualification with at least 360 credits: R10 109.86 per month
  • Applicants who are currently enrolled as students: R4 951.88 per month

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have completed Grade 12 at NQF Level 4.
  • Hold or be studying towards a Degree or Diploma in Accounting or a related field.
  • The relevant qualification should be at NQF Level 6 or 7.
  • No previous work experience is required.
  • Be a resident of the City of Johannesburg.
  • Have never previously participated in an internship programme, unless the previous internship was not related to the applicantโ€™s field of study.

Only qualifying students and graduates residing within Johannesburg will be considered.

Primary Purpose of the Internship

The internship will provide successful candidates with an opportunity to learn and assist the Transport Finance Revenue Section.

Interns will gain exposure to:

  • Inventory management
  • Cash management
  • Revenue management
  • Banking processes
  • Financial reporting
  • Municipal financial policies
  • Municipal Finance Management Act compliance

Key Learning Areas

Successful interns will assist with the following duties:

  • Ensuring that cash sales processed at Rea Vaya stations are properly accounted for.
  • Supporting the correct banking of cash received.
  • Ensuring that bank transactions are properly recorded and accounted for.
  • Assisting with the timely preparation and reporting of accounting information.
  • Supporting the management of inventory in line with City policies and regulations.
  • Assisting with the resolution of audit findings.
  • Contributing towards the Cityโ€™s objective of obtaining a clean audit.
