Bergrivier Municipality invites qualifying South African students residing within the Bergrivier Municipal area to apply for the External Study Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.

Bergrivier Municipality is offering bursary opportunities to students who permanently reside within the Bergrivier Municipal area in the Western Cape.

The bursary is available for studies towards a first:

  • Undergraduate Degree.
  • Postgraduate Degree.
  • National Diploma.

The bursary is open to studies in:

Any field

Applicants must study or intend to study full-time at an accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.

What Does the Bergrivier Municipality Bursary Cover?

The bursary may cover expenses including:

  • Registration fees.
  • Tuition fees.
  • Examination fees.

The final funding amount will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Bursary payments will be made directly to the tertiary institution where the successful recipient is studying.

Selected applicants will also be required to sign a bursary agreement with Bergrivier Municipality.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Permanently reside within the Bergrivier Municipal area in the Western Cape.
  • Preferably be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
  • Be studying or intending to study towards a first full-time Degree or National Diploma.
  • Meet the admission requirements of the relevant tertiary institution.
  • Be registered or accepted at an accredited South African tertiary institution.
  • Have passed the previous year of study if already studying.

Applicants outside the 18 to 35 age range may still be considered.

Financial Need Preference

Preference will be given to applicants from poor households where parents or legal guardians earn a combined monthly income below the GAP housing threshold.

The supplied information indicates a household-income range of approximately:

R3,501 to R22,000 per month

Applicants should therefore submit the required proof of household income with their application.

Required Application Documents

Applicants must submit clear copies of:

  • Certified ID document.
  • Certified Matric final results or Matric certificate.
  • Certified full tertiary academic record if currently studying.
  • Proof of registration or acceptance at a tertiary institution.
  • Breakdown of study fees for the year on the institution’s letterhead.
  • Proof of residential address, such as a municipal account.
  • Certified parent or guardian ID document.
  • Proof of parents’ or guardians’ monthly household income.
  • Proof of disability, where applicable.

Proof of household income may include salary slips, pension slips or an affidavit where a parent or guardian is unemployed.
