The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) invites qualifying South African students to apply for the PSSA Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year. Funding is made available through the Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (FPE) for undergraduate and postgraduate Pharmacy-related studies.

About the PSSA Bursary Programme 2027
The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa administers bursary funding made available through the Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (FPE).
Funding is available for:
- Undergraduate students: BPharm studies; and
- Postgraduate students: Master’s and Doctoral studies in Pharmacy-related subjects.
The bursary is awarded for one academic year at a time. Students who require continued funding must submit a new application each year.
PSSA Undergraduate Bursary 2027
The undergraduate bursary is available to students pursuing a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) qualification.
Applicants must be entering their second, third or fourth year of study in 2027.
Students entering their first year of BPharm studies are not funded under this bursary.
Undergraduate applications are assessed based on:
- Financial circumstances;
- Academic achievement; and
- Other financial assistance received.
PSSA Postgraduate Bursary
The postgraduate bursary supports studies towards Master’s and Doctoral qualifications in Pharmacy-related subjects.
Postgraduate applications are assessed according to:
- Project viability and academic potential โ 60%; and
- Financial need โ 40%.
For the current application cycle, postgraduate applications are closed and are expected to reopen in May 2027.
Undergraduate Bursary Requirements
Applicants for the undergraduate PSSA bursary must:
- Be a South African citizen;
- Have completed Matric;
- Be studying full-time towards a BPharm qualification;
- Be entering their second, third or fourth year of study in 2027;
- Be studying at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa; and
- Be a PSSA student member.
PSSA student membership is free for students.

Postgraduate Bursary Requirements
Postgraduate applicants must:
- Be South African citizens;
- Have completed Matric;
- Have completed an undergraduate qualification;
- Be studying full-time towards a Master’s or Doctoral Pharmacy qualification;
- Be studying at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa;
- Read and agree to the bursary terms and conditions; and
- Be a PSSA student member.

Documents Required
Applicants must submit clear copies of the required supporting documents with their completed application.
These include:
- Certified copy of ID document;
- Certified copy of the full tertiary academic record or transcript;
- Motivational letter from a pharmacy lecturer; and
- Financial declaration and supporting evidence of household income.
Depending on the household’s circumstances, financial evidence may include:
- Certified payslips if employed;
- Balance sheet if self-employed;
- Affidavit if unemployed or working in the informal sector; or
- Proof of pension, where applicable.
The financial declaration must be signed by the applicant and the person responsible for providing their financial support.
Important Information for Applicants
Applicants should also take note of the following:
- Certified copies must be submitted rather than original documents.
- The bursary will not cover existing loans or outstanding student debt.
- Applicants should receive an email confirmation once their application has been received.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
- The final bursary decision will be made by the relevant Committee.
- No correspondence will be entered into regarding the Committee’s final decision.
