AFGRI Apprenticeships 2025 – For Matriculants Only

AFGRI is inviting South African matriculants to apply for its Apprenticeship Programme 2025, aimed at individuals aspiring to become Tractor or Earthmoving Mechanics. This is a 3-year in-service training programme designed to equip apprentices with the technical skills and experience needed to qualify in this critical trade.

About the Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship begins with a 6-month probation period, after which successful candidates will be offered a 3-year contract. Training includes:
- Practical training at a registered Training Institute
- Distance learning for N subjects (if needed)
- Saturday classes (when applicable)
- Product training by John Deere, other suppliers, and AFGRI specialists
Apprentices must pass their training to avoid covering costs themselves. Those who qualify must work back the training period. Contracts cannot exceed 4 years.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Repair and maintenance of tractors or earthmoving equipment
- Stock control and customer service
- Workplace general duties
- Attend training and complete assessments
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:
Option 1: N2 Qualification with 4 Subjects
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Diesel Trade Theory
- Plus one of:
- Industrial Electronics
- Engineering/Technical Drawing
- Motor Trade Theory
Option 2: Matric Certificate with Relevant Subjects
- Mathematics (Not Mathematical Literacy) – Passed
- Technical Mathematics – Passed
- Physical Science – Passed
- Technical Science – Passed
- Engineering Graphics and Design – Passed
Applicants who do not yet meet the N2 requirements may be supported by AFGRI to obtain them during the apprenticeship.

- Valid driver’s license
- Good communication and administration skills
- Basic computer literacy
