About the Learnership
The AFGRI Farmer Development (AFD) Learnership Programme is a 12-month structured training opportunity designed to provide learners with both on-the-job and off-the-job agricultural training.
This programme equips participants with essential skills and knowledge in crop and animal farming, offering exposure to real-life agricultural operations at AFD’s Vastfontein Training Farm in Pretoria North.
While applications are open to all, women and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply in line with AFGRI’s Employment Equity Policy.

Successful learners will sign a 12-month contract with AFGRI Farmer Development and gain hands-on experience working alongside an experienced and diverse agricultural team.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the programme, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Hold a Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
- Be unemployed at the time of application
- Have a genuine interest in farming and agricultural development
- Preference will be given to women and persons with disabilities
