Agricultural Research Council (ARC) Bacteriology Internships 2025

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is inviting unemployed graduates to apply for the Bacteriology Internship Programme 2025 at Onderstepoort Veterinary Research (ARC-OVR).

About the Internship Programme

The ARC-OVR seeks to appoint three (3) interns on a two-year fixed-term contract within its Bacteriology Division. This programme provides hands-on laboratory experience and professional exposure in veterinary and microbiological research.

Interns will gain valuable skills in sample handling, microbiological assays, serological testing, and molecular diagnostics to support veterinary research and public health initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collect samples at abattoirs.
  • Receive, catalogue, organise, and prepare laboratory samples.
  • Assist in the preparation of test reagents.
  • Conduct microbiological, serological, and molecular assays for bacterial detection and identification.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare reports.

Requirements

  • BSc Honours in Microbiology, Animal Health, or related field.
  • Knowledge of microbiology, serology, and PCR.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Driver’s license will be an added advantage.

Additional Information

  • This internship runs for 2 years (fixed-term contract).
  • A competitive remuneration package will be offered.
  • Appointment is subject to security clearance.
  • Preference will be given to designated groups in line with the ARC Employment Equity Plan.
  • Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation report.
