About the Ivanplats Bursary Programme 2026
Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is offering bursary opportunities to support Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from local communities surrounding the Ivanplats Platreef Mine near Mokopane in Limpopo. This initiative is part of Ivanplats’ commitment to empowering local youth with academic support aligned with its operational needs.
The bursary is aimed at students who have completed Grade 12 and are currently enrolled or accepted to study full-time at a recognized South African university in disciplines relevant to mining operations.
Fields of Study Covered
Bursaries will be awarded in the following departments:
- Mining
- Engineering
- Mine Survey
- Environmental Studies
- Geology
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens with a valid ID document.
- Have completed at least Grade 12.
- Be accepted or currently enrolled at a recognized South African university.
- Reside in a local community surrounding the Ivanplats Platreef Mine.
- Be prepared to work underground and on surface in mining environments (for mining-related studies).
- Be medically fit and able to pass the required fitness examination.
Required Documents
All applications must include:
- A proof of acceptance from a South African university.
- A certified copy of your South African ID.
- Grade 12 final results or academic transcript (for current students).
- A comprehensive CV.
- A confirmation letter from your tribal authority or ward councillor confirming your place of residence.
Bursary Conditions
- The bursary covers up to 4 years for an undergraduate qualification.
- Only applicants interested in fields aligned with Ivanplats operations will be considered.
- Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
