The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is inviting qualified South African graduates to apply for a 3-year fixed-term internship in Animal Breeding & Genetics at ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP).

About the Internship
This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in animal genetics and biotechnology. Interns will gain practical experience in molecular laboratory work, data collection, farmer engagement, and scientific reporting under the guidance of project managers and senior researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to project planning and execution of technical activities
- Assist with sample collection, data capturing, and quality control
- Perform laboratory analyses: DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, fragment analysis
- Prepare and support farmer engagement events
- Assist in technology transfer, including writing reports and presentations
- Maintain research facilities, equipment, and participate in internal workshops and meetings
- Support the research team in delivering project milestones efficiently
Minimum Requirements
- MSc in Animal Science, Genetics, or Biotechnology
- Experience in molecular laboratory techniques (e.g., DNA extraction, PCR)
- Understanding of research principles and processes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver’s license is advantageous
