Bigen Bursaries 2026: Apply Now for Engineering Funding

Bigen invites South African students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2026 academic year.

Fields Covered

Bursaries will be awarded for BSc or BEng degree studies in the following fields:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering

Bigen aims to develop South Africa’s young engineering talent through financial support, mentorship, and industry exposure.


What the Bigen Bursary Covers

The bursary provides financial support for:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Prescribed textbooks
  • Other necessary academic expenses

Note: The bursary does not cover accommodation or residence fees.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be studying towards a BSc or BEng degree in one of the listed engineering fields
  • Must be registered at a recognised and accredited South African university
  • Minimum 70% average for first-year students
  • Minimum 65% average for second or third-year students
  • Must not be receiving any other bursary or NSFAS funding
  • Must have strong leadership acumen

Part-time students may also apply.

Required Documents (Compulsory)

Submit clear and certified copies of the following:

  • South African ID or Smart ID card
  • Matric certificate
  • Full academic transcript
  • Proof of registration
  • CV (in PDF format)
  • Proof of banking details (stamped by the bank)
  • Proof of residential address (e.g., municipal bill, account statement, or a letter from a Tribal Authority or Councillor)
