The City of Ekurhuleni invites South African students to apply for the Community Bursary Programme 2026.

The City of Ekurhuleni Community Bursary Programme supports academically deserving students who wish to pursue full-time undergraduate studies in fields that contribute to municipal development and service delivery. The bursary aims to improve access to higher education while developing critical skills needed within the municipality.
Students who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply for funding for the 2026 academic year.
Fields of Study
The bursary supports studies in the following fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Town and Regional Planning
- Architecture
- Environmental Science
- Finance
- Accounting
- Auditing
- Information Technology
- Computer Science
- Data Science
- Health Sciences
Only qualifications offered by accredited South African universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges will be considered.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside within the City of Ekurhuleni (proof required)
- Must be between 18 and 35 years old
- Must have completed Grade 12
- Must have secured admission or proof of registration for the 2026 academic year
- Must provide proof of total monthly household income
Required Documents
Applicants must submit certified copies (not older than 3 months) of the following documents:
- South African ID
- Matric Certificate
- Acceptance letter or proof of registration at an accredited institution
- Proof of residence within the City of Ekurhuleni (not older than 3 months)
- Motivation letter (maximum 1 page)
- Proof of household income (salary slips or stamped bank statement with affidavit)
- Social grant proof (if applicable)
Incomplete applications may not be considered.
What the Bursary Covers
The bursary is renewable annually, depending on the studentโs academic performance and the availability of funds.
The bursary may cover:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- Accommodation and meals (where applicable)
Bursary Conditions
Successful applicants must comply with the following conditions:
- Sign a bursary contract with the City of Ekurhuleni
- Maintain a minimum yearly academic average of 70%
- Participate in vacation work within municipal departments when required
The municipality reserves the right to withdraw the bursary if a student fails to meet academic or conduct requirements.
