City of Johannesburg: Asset Management Internships 2026

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) invites qualifying students residing in Johannesburg communities to apply for the Student Internship Circular 004/2026 within the Group Finance Department: Asset Management.

This internship programme is aimed at providing work-based training to students who require experiential learning as part of their academic qualification or post-qualification practical exposure. The City of Johannesburg remains committed to empowering youth through structured workplace training opportunities.

This opportunity is strictly open to youth residing within Johannesburg communities who have never participated in an internship programme before, except where a previous internship was not related to their course of study.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
  • Degree or National Diploma in Accounting or related qualification (NQF Level 7/6)
  • No prior work experience required
  • Must be a City of Johannesburg resident

Primary Function

The intern will support the monitoring and review of accounting procedures relating to fixed assets within core departments. This includes capitalisation, transfers, disposal of assets, and ensuring compliance with asset management policies.

The role further involves:

  • Ensuring accurate asset reporting and reconciliation
  • Supporting asset note preparation
  • Rendering advisory services to core departments on asset control and accounting procedures

Key Learning Areas

Interns will gain exposure to:

  • Monitoring accounting procedures related to fixed assets
  • Implementing control procedures and GRAP requirements
  • Ensuring compliance with asset management policies
  • Reviewing and processing transactions linked to financial statement preparation
  • Supporting coordinated asset monitoring and accounting operations

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Good communication skills
  • Coordinating skills

Core Learning Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of accounting concepts
  • Understanding of Asset Management functions and processes
