The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (PDARD) invites unemployed South African graduates to apply for the Assistant Agricultural Practitioner Internship Programme 2025. A total of 231 posts are available across seven provinces on a three-year fixed-term contract.
This exciting opportunity is part of the department’s commitment to support youth development and ensure sustainable agricultural extension services throughout the country.

Position: Assistant Agricultural Practitioner
Contract Duration: 3 years (Fixed-Term)
Salary: R193 359 per annum + 37% in lieu of benefits

Minimum Requirements
- Three-year Diploma in Agriculture (NQF Level 6 or higher)
- Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP)
- Valid Code B driver’s license
- No experience required
Competencies:
- Knowledge of extension methodology
- Communication (written and verbal)
- Basic public speaking and reporting skills
- Understanding group dynamics and community engagement
- Physical mobility to visit farmers on-site
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with technical agricultural support, including farm visits and farmer training
- Help promote sustainable production and good resource use (soil, water, veld, etc.)
- Support food security programmes and land development projects
- Organize farmer days, capacity-building sessions, and aftercare
- Facilitate the formation of cooperatives, interest groups, and farmer associations
- Assist with data collection, impact assessment, and reporting
- Promote partnerships with stakeholders and apply latest agricultural practices
