About the Dispensary Support Learnership
Dis-Chem has exciting opportunities available for Dispensary Support Learners. The main purpose of this learnership is to employ learners who are capable of completing the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course.
This programme equips learners with knowledge of key areas in the pharmaceutical environment, including dispensing practices, stock control, patient service, and legal compliance. The learnership promotes structured, quality on-the-job training.
Learners will be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support staff until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as Learner Basic Assistants. Permanent employment will only be offered once the learner qualifies as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
Learners will assist with, but not be limited to:
- Sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assisting with compounding, preparation, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines under supervision
- Unpacking and merchandising stock in the dispensary and OTC shelves
- Accurately interpreting scripts in accordance with SAPC legal requirements
- Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medication
- Ensuring pharmacist checks and signs off all medications
- Assisting with stock control, expiry date checks, and shelf organisation
- Following up with patients regarding script tracking and appointments
- Assisting with scheme authorisations (chronic, HIV, AIDS, oncology medication)
- Handling call centre scripts and patient service calls
- Promoting health awareness and providing accurate information
- Reporting low or out-of-stock items to the Dispensary Manager
- Receiving and managing dispensary stock according to company SOPs
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Pure Mathematics
- Physical Science or Life Science
- Minimum average of 50%
- Strong academic performance in relevant subjects
