About the Learnership
The Dispensary Support Learnership is designed to train learners to become Basic Pharmacist Assistants.
During the programme, learners will:
- Gain practical experience in a pharmacy environment
- Learn about dispensing and pharmaceutical processes
- Work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist
- Complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course
Learners will be employed on a fixed-term contract. Permanent employment may be offered after successful qualification and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Key Responsibilities
Learners will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines
- Supporting the preparation of non-sterile medicines
- Unpacking, merchandising, and organising dispensary stock
- Interpreting prescriptions under supervision
- Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medication
- Monitoring stock levels and expiry dates
- Assisting with patient queries and follow-ups
- Supporting chronic medication authorisations (including HIV and oncology)
- Providing basic health information to patients
- Ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations and SOPs
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this learnership, applicants must:
- Have Grade 12 (Matric)
- Have Pure Mathematics and Physical Science or Life Science
- Achieve at least an average of 50%
- Be willing to complete the pharmacist assistant course
Skills and Competencies
Successful candidates should have:
- Strong communication skills (English + a second language)
- Good time management and ability to work under pressure
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Customer service and problem-solving skills
- Teamwork and professionalism
- Basic computer and numerical skills
