Dis-Chem Pharmacies is one of South Africaโs leading retail pharmacy groups, offering pharmaceutical products, health and wellness services, beauty items, and everyday essentials. Through this learnership programme, successful candidates will receive structured workplace training and gain valuable experience in the pharmaceutical environment.
The programme aims to develop learners into qualified Basic Pharmacist Assistants, registered with the South African Pharmaceutical Council (SAPC).
About the Dispensary Support Learnership
The Dispensary Support Learnership is designed to train learners in the core principles of pharmaceutical services, dispensing procedures, and patient support.
Learners will be employed on a fixed-term contract while completing the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. Once learners complete the programme and register with the SAPC, they may be considered for permanent employment within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.
This programme provides hands-on training in pharmacy operations and promotes quality on-the-job learning within a professional healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Learners will assist in various pharmacy operations, including:
- Selling Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assisting with the compounding or preparation of non-sterile medicines
- Helping with dispensary stock management and merchandising
- Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of dispensary and OTC shelves
- Assisting with script interpretation and medication dispensing
- Ensuring medication is accurately picked, packed, labelled and checked
- Monitoring medication expiry dates and stock levels
- Supporting patient follow-ups and script tracking
- Assisting with chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medication authorisations
- Providing health information to patients
- Assisting with call centre and patient service calls
- Receiving and managing dispensary stock according to company procedures
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
- Must have Pure Mathematics
- Must have Physical Science or Life Science
- Must have achieved at least 50% average
- Willing to work in a pharmacy retail environment
