Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited invites South African unemployed youth to apply for the Dispensary Support position at its Ferngate store in Randburg, Gauteng.

This opportunity is designed for candidates who wish to complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course and begin a career within the pharmaceutical environment. Once registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and successfully qualified, candidates may be offered permanent employment.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric with:
- Pure Mathematics (minimum 50%)
- Life Science and/or Physical Science
- At least 50% overall average
- Must complete a Dis-Chem proficiency test enabling SAPC learner basic assistant registration
Special Conditions:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE checks will be conducted)
- Must pass the SAPC-qualifying proficiency assessment
Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Dispensary Support staff member will:
- Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines
- Support compounding/manipulation of non-sterile medications
- Assist with unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning dispensary & OTC shelves
- Learn to interpret prescriptions and follow legal/ethical requirements
- Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medicines
- Assist with stock control, including expiry checks and Schedule 1–5 medicines
- Follow up with patients on prescription tracking and upcoming appointments
- Assist with call centre scripts and telephone patient service
- Provide basic health information to customers
- Assist with scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medicines
- Report low/out-of-stock items
- Receive dispensary stock per company SOPs
