Dis-Chem Pharmacies invites qualified and passionate BPharm graduates to apply for the Pharmacist Intern Programme 2025/2026 across several stores in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

This internship equips BPharm graduates with hands-on pharmacy practice exposure, patient care responsibility, and lifelong learning within a leading pharmaceutical retail environment.


Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • BPharm Degree (4-year qualification)
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Registered with SAPC or eligible to register

Advantageous

  • Experience during studies (holiday work)
  • Knowledge of Unisolve and E-Scripting

Key Functions & Duties

As a Pharmacist Intern, you will work under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist and perform duties within the legal scope of practice, including:

Dispensary & Patient Care

  • Interpret prescriptions accurately
  • Capture and verify patient details in the system
  • Pick, pack, label and dispense medication
  • Provide correct usage instructions and counsel patients
  • Handle S1 & S2 medicines sales
  • Prepare, manipulate, or compound sterile/non-sterile medicines
  • Verify all scripts checked and signed by a pharmacist

Operational Duties

  • Manage stock distribution and control (S1–S6)
  • Repackage medicine according to SOPs
  • Assist with ordering scheduled medicines up to Schedule 6
  • Maintain customer profiles and note alerts
  • Track patient scripts, follow-up when necessary
  • Assist at dispensary, front shop and self-medication counter
  • Assist with stock takes, asset control and reporting

Medical Aid & Administration

  • Submit claims accurately
  • Correct rejected medical aid claims
  • Ensure chronic, HIV, AIDS & oncology medicine authorization
  • Explain medical aid vs cash prices to patients
  • Process all relevant paperwork

Housekeeping, Safety & Standards

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem SOPs and uniform requirements
  • Maintain safe dispensary conditions
  • Follow OHS guidelines and report hazards
  • Keep work areas clean and organized
