The Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury invites eligible and financially deserving students to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. This bursary forms part of the department’s long-term strategy to strengthen critical financial and economic skills capacity while promoting inclusivity and transformation in public service.


About the Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury Bursary 2026

The Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury has identified key strategic skills shortages that directly affect service delivery and financial governance. Through this bursary programme, the department aims to invest in young talent from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, with a strong focus on building a professional, skilled, and representative workforce.

Special priority is given to youth living with disabilities, in line with the department’s commitment to equal opportunity and inclusivity.


Fields of Study Funded (Priority Disciplines)

Bursaries will be awarded to students pursuing full-time undergraduate studies in the following priority fields:

  • Economics
  • Financial Accounting
  • Cost and Management Accounting
  • Financial Information Systems
  • Information Technology
  • Internal Auditing
  • Supply Chain Management

These disciplines are aligned with the Treasury’s mandate in financial management, economic policy research, and public sector governance.


Minimum Requirements (Who Should Apply)

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen and a resident of the Eastern Cape Province
  • Have obtained a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with admission to a Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma
  • Be studying towards an undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 6 or 7, minimum 360 credits)
  • Be registered or accepted at a public tertiary institution
  • Be financially needy, supported by proof of household income
  • Total household income must not exceed R467 790 per annum
  • Provide proof of residence

Minimum NSC Achievement Levels (Where Applicable)

  • English Home Language / First Additional Language: Level 5 / 4
  • Mathematics: Level 5
  • Mathematical Literacy: Level 6
  • Accounting: Level 6
  • Economics: Level 6

Required Supporting Documents

Applicants must submit an application letter quoting the reference ECPT/BURSARIES/2026, together with certified copies of the following:

  • Letter of admission or registration
  • South African ID
  • Final academic results
  • Parents’ or guardian’s proof of income
  • Proof of residence

If parents are deceased, applicants must attach:

  • Certified copies of death certificates
  • An affidavit confirming the legal guardian

Applicants living with disabilities must clearly indicate the type of disability and attach relevant supporting documentation.
