Available Internship Positions

The municipality is recruiting for the following Laboratory Internship positions:

Microbiology Lab: 2 positions.

Chemistry Lab: 3 positions.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have Grade 12.

Applicants must also have a relevant three-year National Diploma or Bachelorโ€™s Degree in one of the following fields:

Microbiology.

Biotechnology.

Chemistry.

Analytical Chemistry.

Knowledge and Competencies

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated and able to take initiative.

Applicants must be able to work in independent work settings.

Applicants must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Applicants must be able to work with minimum supervision and have strong communication and organisational skills.

Applicants must be computer literate, including Microsoft Office 365.

Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems and ISO 17025 will be an added advantage.

Key Performance Areas

Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and ability in water testing procedures and laboratory techniques.

They must be familiar with laboratory equipment used in Microbiology and Chemistry laboratories.

Applicants must understand laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling practices.

They must be able to prepare reagents, standards and laboratory solutions accurately.

Successful candidates must have experience with recording, analysing and reporting test results.

Knowledge of water quality standards and environmental regulations will be an advantage.

Applicants must have good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

They must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Conditions

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
