Are you preparing to submit your child’s online application for Grade 1 or Grade 8 in Gauteng for the 2026 academic year? The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has officially announced that online applications will open on Thursday, 24 July 2025, and close on Friday, 29 August 2025.

To ensure a smooth and successful application, it’s essential to have all the required supporting documents ready before starting the process. Submitting incorrect or incomplete documentation can delay placement or lead to disqualification.

Documents Required for GDE Online Application 2026

Make sure to have certified clear copies of the following documents, scanned and ready to upload during the application process:

1. Parent or Legal Guardian’s ID or Passport

This verifies the identity of the individual applying on behalf of the learner.

2. Child’s Birth Certificate or Passport

Used to confirm the learner’s identity and age. A valid birth certificate is compulsory for all applicants.

3. Proof of Home Address

Examples include:

  • Recent municipal or utility bill (water, electricity)
  • Lease or rental agreement
  • Official letter confirming residence

This determines the schools within your feeder zone.

4. Proof of Work Address

Required only if you apply using your workplace address. Acceptable documents include:

  • Employment confirmation letter
  • Work utility bill with employer’s address

5. Latest School Report (For Grade 8 Applications Only)

Grade 7 learners applying for Grade 8 must upload their most recent school report to support their application.

6. Immunisation Card (For Grade 1 Applications Only)

The Road to Health (immunisation) card is compulsory for all Grade 1 applications as part of health and safety requirements.

Important Tips for Parents

  • Ensure documents are scanned in PDF format and are clear and legible.
  • Upload documents to the GDE Online Admissions Portal during the application period.
  • Applications without supporting documents may not be processed.
