Gert Sibande District Municipality invites suitably qualified unemployed graduates to apply for the Environmental Health & Environmental Services Internship Programme for a 12-month contract.
Internship Closing Date: 05 December 2025 at 12h00
Internship Location: Gert Sibande District Municipality, Ermelo, Mpumalanga
Successful candidates will work under the supervision of an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) in line with Department of Health guidelines and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- National Diploma or B-Tech in Environmental Health
- South African ID
- Willingness to work under EHP supervision
- Ability to meet vetting and screening requirements
Duties & Responsibilities
Interns will be responsible for assisting with:
Water Quality & Environmental Monitoring
- Conducting water monitoring to ensure safe drinking water
- Monitoring environmental conditions to prevent environmental health risks
Waste Management
- Conduct inspections to ensure safe and adequate waste management
- Promote health and safety through proper waste handling practices
Health & Safety Nuisance Control
- Attend to nuisance complaints (noisy dogs, goats, cattle, pests)
- Assist in pest control and environmental compliance follow-ups
Facility & Building Inspections
- Inspect public buildings and facilities to prevent health risks
- Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
Health Promotion
- Promote hygiene and disease prevention (environmentally induced & communicable diseases)
- Conduct awareness activities as required
Chemical Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Assist in implementing chemical safety programmes
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals
- Serve statutory notices for non-compliance
- Prepare statutory documentation and forward it for approval
